Marching Tuba — unsure with how to proceed

Post by ChowMein »

Hey all, newer to the forums and wasn’t sure if this topic fits here but I suppose an admin will sort that out if I’m wrong!

Anywho, I’ve been looking into buying a marching tuba (specifically a Contra, not a Sousa or Helicon) for kinda cheap and spotted the Schiller brand. They don’t have the greatest reputation but I’ve never talked to anyone who had played on one personally and was wondering if you all could give any insights to the brand as a whole?

(or if anyone has actually played the contras and has an opinion that would be great!)

Thanks in advance for any comments you might leave! I appreciate ANY related input!

Which Schiller marching tuba are you referring to? There are a few if memory servers me well. I played a Kanstul-like chinese clone 4/4 at a conference that was pretty good, and I think Schiller has the same body style for their 4/4. Are you using it as a practice horn for Drum corps or as a sousaphone alternative for a band?
