Bonerama

Post by Daryl Fletcher »

I just heard this group for the first time on Beyond Jazz on XM. It's a really cool sounding band. Has anyone else heard them or heard of them?

...Love these guys!! They swing through Raleigh, NC once-n-awhile.

I would love to hear them play on their own turf in NO.

They have at least one CD....which is a live recording, so it captured their stuff quite well, even if the fidelity is a little off. It rocks!!
beta 14??..........OK!

I know Bonerama from New Orleans- but who is the sousa in the pic? He doesnt look like Matt Perrine their regular Sousaphonist.
Matt does some nice work with the Nightcrawlers- and plays with washboard Chaz trio. Also In the Nola cabal-
Kirk Joseph has a good band playing sousaphonk.

But who is the cat in the pic?!

I love these guys! I listen to their stuff almost everyday. They actually inspired a group of my buddies to start a group like that in which I play my 2341and a little trombone. I have the same mouthpiece as Matt but I have outgrown it. It is always everyone's favorite though. Didn't or doesn't Howard Johnson use one like that too?

You guys should also check out the other bands that Matt P. and Mark Mullins are in...Mulebone is another trombone group and The New Orleans Nightcrawlers is a larger group that Mr. Perrine plays in.

Bonereama has 2 amazing albums out!
they rock.
I bought a sousaphone so maybe one day I could play in a band like this and rock as hard as they do!

They played at ITF in New Orleans this year and were joined for a couple numbers by Joe Alessi. The band is awesome to begin with, but when Alessi got up there, the volume of the horns literally doubled (I'm not sure if it was because of Alessi's tremendous sound or (more likely) that they other guys felt like trying to play in tune with him and each other).

I've heard a lot of their stuff, but it's hard to beat their swung-as-hell version of Lil' Darlin. Also, the Edgar Winter cover "Frankenstein" gives an opportunity to play pretty loud...
