One more old tuba I'm trying to identify

Post by Dave Detwiler »

Hi again, all,

Here is one more photo that will be included in my upcoming ITEA Journal article on the Anglo Canadian Leather Co. Band at its world-class tuba players, that has a tuba that I am trying to identify.
Photo 10 - Romeril in Hamilton in 1916.JPG
This is James Romeril, in late 1915, and in Hamilton, Ontario, before leaving to serve in the Great War.

After the war, he returned to Ontario and played in that amazing band in Huntsville. Then, in 1923 and 1924, he played with Sousa, after which he remained in Huntsville. Finally, he moved his family to Middletown, OH, in 1928 to play with Frank Simon in the Armco Band.

So, what can you tell me about this horn?

Thanks so much!
Dave

The Holton short action set has this “feature”. When I first saw the horn I was wondering if it happened to be a early short action set. It doesn’t appear to be.

The MTS looks a lot shorter on the original than either of the examples.

probably taken of a high pitch horn
That was my assumption - esp. since everything else looks identical in layout.

Thanks, guys!
