Back again.

Post by UNMTUBADUDE »

It's been a while since I have been on here.
Long story short, I now live back in Texas after being in New Mexico for neay 21 years.
I have recently picked up a nice King 627 Baritone
It's a mid 1970s horn as old as I am.
The case is rough but with a few tack nails, it will be fixed.
Will write more later.

What kind of mouthpiece are you using for it? Yes, the "standard" is a 6 1/2 AL, but on my Wessex version of the same horn, and having owned the King version in the past, I recommend the Denis Wick Ultra 6 baritone mouthpiece. It is essentially a 6 1/2 AL with a tad deeper cup. This keeps the lower register from getting so grainy, has good lyric qualities in the mid register, and does not sacrifice stability in the upper register.

Using a Kelly 6 1/2 AL but I will look into the Denis Wick.
