Cleaning a gig bag

Post by Hank74 »

I wanted to get some input on whether I should use a rug cleaner, with the attachments, to clean the inside of my gig bag. What about dry cleaning it?

Has any of you done it?

Morning,
Not done it with mine, but if I did, I would dry clean it.

I’ve cleaned a lot of pretty funky bags. They’ve included RB/Cronkhite, Altieri, and misc “other” bags. What I did was take them to a laundromat and used the big, industrial-sized washers and dryers. When available, I use a laundry centrifuge (think super-turbocharged spin cycle) before the dryer. Once done, I keep the bag open with a fan blowing in it for a day to ensure any remaining moisture is removed. Has always worked very well for me. Pretreating heavily soiled spots and using extra rinsing to remove detergents always helps.
