BBb version of Besson 983?

Post by MKTuba »

I recently listened to the Patrick Sheridan episode of The Brass Junkies (highly recommend this show btw) and in it Sheridan mentioned a BBb version of the Besson 983. This would be a front action compensating BBb tuba made by Besson. I may have heard him wrong, however if such a thing does exist does anyone have any information on it?

Yep. The Besson 993. Give it a Google! They’re not very common which makes me think that’s probably for a reason.

I have both. The design is similar, except for size. The 993 has been discontinued for some time.

In my experience, they are both fine horns.

Thanks for the information y’all!

This is really cool! I’d love to find a 993 to try out someday. I’m
A fan of the German rotor BBb’s and I’ll probably never buy a piston valve BBb, but I’d love to try this out. I’m a massive fan of the 983 Eb (trying hard to find one for sale) and was immediately interested when I heard there was a BBb version!
