Lidl

Anyone in the US carrying Lidl tubas now?

Anyone know their relationship to Cerveny? Looks like the same tubas with different engraving.

Thanks.

Back when Lee Stofer was carrying these, he provided (on the other forum) some details on the relationship between Lidl and Cerveny:

It's an interesting story, and I'd love to have a toot on the modernized Lidl versions. There are some small differences apparent in the publicly available specs as well. The Lidl 684 and 884 approximately correspond to the 681 and 686 Cervenys in size, but both have a substantially larger bore (.795 on the Cerveneys, .835 on the Lidls). I'm sure there are some adjustments in the taper and leadpipe, and the linkage/fit and finish certainly look good.

I play a 90s Sanders / Cerveny 686 stencil in C and think it's a good design with uneven execution. My horn is really responsive, easy to play in tune and I like the way it sounds, valves and stock linkage are fast and quiet, but there are certainly a couple of fit and finish details/manufacturing issues. The 3rd and 4th slides are a touch short and not aligned well, hairline crack in a bow, not due to damage but just manufacturing defect requiring a patch, and the factory fifth valve tuning was flat half step.

Lidl seems to be better about avoiding in their fabrication. At the same time, with the bigger bore, I wonder if the character of the instrument is very different.

The line is now carried by Buddy Roger’s music in Cincinnati.
