Blue note straps
I recently bought a Conn 25J that has no strap rings. I'll need to play standing up occasionally, so I need to use a strap. I've heard that the Blue Note strap can be used without rings. Does anyone have any experience with using one on a mongo Conn?

I have a blue note strap that I have used with a number of tubas. It has nylon straps that wrap around the tuba to which the shoulder strap attaches. It works well if you can find a brace to keep the smaller straps from sliding, which I seem to remember isn't a problem with a 2XJ. It is pretty well padded, but even so I had trouble standing with a 22J, or similar sized horn with it for any length of time. I guess at 6' 5" and 230 I'm just too small to stand with a 2XJ.

I prefer a M-W harness over the Blue Note strap mainly because it is more substantial and fully padded. That being said, ANY time spent standing with a 30 pound horn hanging on the front of you is going to take its toll regardless of the strap or harness being used. For prolonged standing gigs a helicon or small sousa is the only way to go.
