I recently purchased the Dennis Wick and recommend it.

Depends on what you mean by "effective". It's pretty effective in the Schickele Trio (Sic) Sonata in that it gives the tambourine player something to do.JohnH wrote:I wonder if most composers have even heard the sound of a muted tuba or euphonium when they write it into a piece. I can probably count on one hand all the pieces I've used a mute for that were actually effective.

If you're going to buy one, I'd say go for the Wick. It's been recommended time and time again. I have an R&S, which is a good mute, however it gives a different sound than pretty much every other mute available, so that makes it not that great for ensemble work.

If $ is not a problem, purchase the Denis Wick Alum. Straight. The Humes and Berg make a fine mute, but the industry standard is the Wick. WWBW has them.

WWBW out of Wick Mutes - Say it ain't so, Joe
Actually, I saw the same thing and called Roger Lewis to verify. It appears that the listing was a result of a misplaced switch for the add. Roger assured me that the correct listing should be up shortly.
