COS Needs Low Brass

Post by tubapress »

The Children's Orchestra Society (COS) in Manhasset, NY (Long Island) is in need of young low brass students. This is a great opportunity for high school and middle school players to perform and learn in the COS program on Saturdays.

The top orchestra just returned from a 9 day trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. The orchestra performed twice in Scotland and once in England.

Founded in 1962 by Dr. H.T. Ma (father of famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma), the COS has been under the leadership of Michael Dadap and Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma since 1984. Beginning with an 18-member ensemble, COS has now grown to more than 200 members comprising four orchestras, chamber music and musicianship classes, the Instrumental Technique Advancement Program, and private lessons in strings, winds, brass and percussion. Its most advanced group, the Young Symphonic Ensemble, has presented annual concerts at Alice Tully Hall since the establishment of the Discovery Series in the Fall of 1994.

I am primarily seeking trombone and tuba students, but euphonium players should apply as well. I would love to add euphonium to our in the program as we begin to build our wind ensemble program.

Any high school students or any teachers or directors that know of students that might benefit from such a strong and established school are encouraged to contact me directly at the email address printed below or to contact COS directly at 516-869-9696 or info@childrensorchestra.org.
