has anyone had any experience with making sousaphone bell covers? Myself and the rest of the sousa section wants to put some together for next season.

We used cheese cloth with a hem around and a draw string to keep folks from filling the tubas up with God knows what at Mardi Gras parades. The cheese cloth alone let enough air thru to allow the horn to play fine.
I'll never forget the cute majorette who asked me sweetly to carry her box of Cracker Jax down my sousaphone. Her friends chorused,"Can you carry ours too?" and three more boxes went down the bell and stuffed the thing up until I dumped it out after the parade.
