brass repair shop in chicago area

Post by Biggs »

I have a trombone with a bend in the outer slide that I need repaired. I recently relocated to a southern suburb of Chicago. Does anyone know of a reputable repair person/shop where I could take my trombone?

Try Wayne Tenabe in Arligton Heights. I don't know if he's still around, but Ron Collier in Naperville is also a possibility. He used to work at Schilke, and left to make Sackbutts.

Unfortunately, Wayne Tanabe is selling/has sold The Brass Bow in Arlington Heights. I have been informed that he is now working for Yamaha out of NY.

Dana Hofer at the American Music Group in Itasca, IL does good work on brass instruments.

I do not know of any other Chicago-area shops that do quality repairs on tubas.

I'll put in a second vote for Dana. He is as good of a brass repair guy as there is in the area. FWIW, I believe American Music has changed names (and owners) yet again. Don't ask what it is, though. I can't keep track.
