Barcone Baby and Junior sousas in Eb and BBb

Post by imperialbari »

A really odd occurrence within the sousaphone area is the Barcone brand, which has been up on the old TubeNet a few times.

I have had some samples, I think they are all Junior BBb’s, represented in my galleries. Tonight Søren Roi Midtgaard, our fellow TubeNetter and my countryman sent me scans of a flyer from 1958. If any of you have photo documentation of instruments of this brand, I would be most interested in getting digital copies.

My Barcone gallery entries so far are these:

You will have to join these free and open for all gallery groups respectively:

You may notice, that I maybe have misrepresented the junior sized samples as babies. I will correct that, when I have received some knowledgeable feedback.

I have one of the baby BBb sousaphones. I got it hoping for a cimbasso sound, but it actually has a pretty nice tuba tone if you don't play loud. What it really excels at are elephant calls, rips, screams, and other tastee tuba noises.
