I have some ideas about, why the Berliner Pumpen went obsolete. I also have some ideas about a certain modern valve system being an inspired improvement of the Berliner Pumpen. Hopefully I get a text written on that topic some day.
A disproportionate number of the samples are anonymous. I don’t think they were made without the pride of the maker. But a long life exposed to over-zealous polishing and buffing have taken them back to anonymity.
As long as I have a saying, none of my instruments will be polished or buffed. I prefer lacquered instruments, but silver plated ones are beautiful, even when they go black.

What does it take to watch
http://www.smartgroups.com/pictures/ope ... um&Dir=ASC?
Membership of a group!
If one has to store large commercial amounts of photos, one buys commercial server space.
If one lives on a pension, one has to set priorities. Buying server space for well over 2GB of brass photos, probably the largest privately maintained brass photos’ library existing, would be prohibitive. So I have chosen to use the free Yahoo system. At the outset I gave away a screen name and a codeword for everybody to use. Members of the tuba community abused this option to join photo groups of a very different nature. And deleted the first two groups. Hence the current demand to join my gallery groups as personal members.
Persons asking are invited to join all of my groups, whenever I update my index, which happens about 4 times a year.
Yes the Yahoo system with a limit of 30MB of photos and 20MB of files in each group is quirky. Still the present group of members encompasses everybody from the high school kid to some of the finest repairmen in the business. My groups hold information, which can be found nowhere else: especially concerning the Czech-German tradition of brasses and then some unique catalogue scans.
Not one single photo has been shot by me. I am relying on open, but temporary, sources and on persons finding it worthwhile to support my project.
In the matter of Berliner Pumpen my sources are my old friend Sven Bring of Stockholm and my much younger friend Søren Roi Midtgaard of Aarhus. Søren sold me my two latest acquisitions.
Some of you know, that I from time to time am almost blind in certain types of daylight. That was the case, when I opened this thread. Sven Bring kindly made me aware about my omission of an especially beautiful Swedish sample:

People really wanting information don’t get shy by the stones on the road. Post me a note at

and you will earn yourself a space on my invitation list.
