I think I've played that arrangement before and i have to say that you are 100% right, i love to take that part to the edge of my range. And the looks it gets me makes it all worth itchevy68chv wrote:Our quintet has an arrangement of West Side Story, and guess who gets the solo in "I Feel Pretty." Yeah, that ones kinda entertaining to pull out.

Personal faves that are always on tap to impress the kiddies (in no particular order):
Bruckner 4 & 8, fourth movements
Lincolnshire Posy, Rufford Park Poachers
Das Rheingold, Dragon solo (kind of dynamic blasphemy...but it ain't an audition!
)
Lohengrin, Act III
Colonel Bogey, breakup strain (8vb, if I can control my inevitable giggling)
Symphonie Fantastique, finale
Revenge of the Sith soundtrack, little low brass soli in the first track
Symphony in Bb, that one place...after all the 8th notes
DoD National Anthem (especially in a hangar, preferably with a solid partner so I can pedal the last note
)

The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!

In high school, I would always play Seven Nation Army. It's just a simple, clean line that almost anyone can play.
I just finished a concert where we played Samuel Hazo's Arabesque. It's normal bass line stuff for a little bit, but, after the percussion break, there is an awesome line that sounds awesome!! The ending is also super fun to really wail on too!
Rock ON!!

I regularly play in the NYC subway by myself with my tuba. I usually blast these sort of bass lines

By the way, I'd be down to show some pics of me doing this. But I play with a political motivated sign with a curse word--will the mods get upset?
