Jupiter CC

They probably don't expect to sell many at that price. The endgame is to sell a boatlaod of their student and intermediate line based on a few endorsements like Boston Brass. I am sure all of these will be built to order, and as usual, no one will pay list price.

They might surprise us, though. I would want to try one just to see if it is as good as my old Jupiter euph. I have yet to play a non-comp eupher under $1000 with the sound and response I get from this one.

And the new Eb 376 as well:

3 removable top action and 1 side valve with stainless steel pistons
Seems to be a feature they're trying to promote. Cause that picture doesn't look like the horn has top valves...

But no below a used Miraphone or MW...

I know some of you may be "excited" about this development, but give me a used BMW anyday of the week over a new Kia.

"Interest" might be a more apt description.

We have burned a lot of ink (and brain cells) on this thread. Isn't there something more important to discuss.

Neither Jupiter nor Yamaha pay their artists. Get your facts straight.
And colleges don't pay athletes. Oh yeah, except they get a free (in many cases) WORLD CLASS education, free textbooks (which cost A LOT), a meal plan, free clothes and in some cases a computer. But no, they don't get "paid".

Yamaha and Jupiter talk about giving their artists a "discount". I'm pretty sure Jim Self hasn't paid for any horn he wanted from them recently...

Artists may not get paid in cash, but they get paid in horns and gear, etc. If I was really good, using brand X, and somone offered me a free horn of brand Y, I would at least think about it/try it out...

I will not beleive that an artist of this caliber plays a Jupiter because its better than the competition.

That make me biased and ignorant in your eyes, but its all good. I just think Jupiter makes bad horns. Thats all there is to it.

Are they getting better? Sure! Maybe. I don't know or really care. But I don't take the word of ANYONE who receives something in return to say so. And not you, Jupiter, Yamaha NO ONE can convince me that there is nothing in it for the guys who have endorsed these instruments.

Dear Mr. Fpoon,

How about talking to the artists themselves? Just please... PLEASE be sure of your sources before spreading any further misinformation to those of us on this list who think you know what you're talking about.

My friend.... you don't.

I happen to know, personally, Yamaha artists as well as many Yamaha employees who deal with artist pricing and artist relations. Special pricing is offered to some artists so you are correct in that much. Until you figure out how to back up your facts... please don't consider them facts.

Rant over.

Slightly OT:

I'm surprised that Yamaha had a bad rep. for quality in their brass instruments. Here in America, Yamaha is most widely known for their motorcycles and powersports equipment but their roots are in musical instruments- the corporate logo is three tuning forks, after all. I have heard nothing but good about their pianos.

I knew a fellow who was a Yamaha Artist on the French horn. He played LA and Vegas sessions and played in Frank Sinatra's backup band. He did say that Yamaha was sending him a horn every so often to try out and liked him because he could give them information they could use regarding playability and proposed changes in the horn in a way that they could understand. He liked it because he got to play horns that were kind of custom made for him and he didn't have to risk the loss or damage of his personal horns which he paid for and had to repair if damaged. (Frank would fly him in for a rehearsal and concert and then fly him home. He was on a plane a lot.) He had to send it back when Yamaha said so but they always sent something for him to play and it was never a total piece of crap so it worked for him. I think he got as much out of the deal as Yamaha did.

My personal tidbit: I have a friend who is a college prof. and a good player. He is a performing artist for a certain brand of trpt.He gets a deep discount on product and a fee for each educational event(masterclass or clinic) he does for them. There are quite a few hoops to jump through for an event to meet their criteria for him to get paid.I think he has all but given up because of the hassle factor. He definitely does like the product,however...

A Big Thanks to those who have helped put "fpoon" in his/her place. Perhaps over time, this sort of thing will help this board get back to being a place where people come for facts.
His, thank you very much.

This board is where people come for OPINIONS. Someone asked about the 582, I said that the ONE that I had PLAYED was not an enjoyable horn. I further stated that I thought there was something in it for the musicians to switch to Jupiter. Maybe there isn't, maybe they just love the horns. Power to them either way.

Please everyone lets go have a pint.
