Re: Standard to Euro Shank Adapter
The numbers in the Custom Music list are probably either the receiver opening, or the large end of the taper on the shank -- they're way too large for the tip diameter. I converted the millimeter dimensions to inches, and got the following:imperialbari wrote:I don’t follow the dimensions cited. Are they for the tip of the shank, or for the opening of the receiver? I think dimensions are normally indicating the tip of the shank.

Tuba Shank Designations
Perantucci tuba mouthpieces are available with the following shanks:
No Indication: (15.2 mm) (0.598")
Standard shank, for contemporary CC and BBb tubas with large receivers.
"S" on shank: (14.8 mm) (0.582")
One size smaller, for CC and BBb tubas with small receivers and most Eb and F tubas.
"XS" on shank: (14.5 mm) (0.571")
For Eb or F tubas with particularly small receivers.
"AM" on shank: (14.2 mm) (0.559")
For instruments with extremely small receivers.

Re: Standard to Euro Shank Adapter
My experience with different mouthpiece shanks-
large Euro- use/d it on a 186, 187, and 20K with no problems; fit very far into a Hirsbrunner piston Eb
American- used it on above horns with no problems; fit to just short of the rings in the above Hirs
Schilke bass trombone- fit just fine into my Getzen bass, despite others having problems; fit deep enough into my old Conn Eb, but taper wasn't quite a perfect fit, same problem with Bach-style trombone mp's
On that Hirsbrunner, I ended up using my 18 in a sousa bit as the horn played very sharp. I still had the main slide out very far- it even fell out a few times when I was just carrying the thing!
There really wasn't much I liked about that horn except for it being an Eb.

Re: Standard to Euro Shank Adapter
Have a sleeve fitted to the smaller MP shank to enable a snug fit in a Euro receiver. I just did that to enable a Monette 94 to mount in a Hirs. HB-12 Euro receiver. Bob Reeves of bobreeves.com did the work which was straightforward. Same situation with a Rudi Meinl 5/4 CC where the receiver is formed in a French taper, thus the MP shank must be a cylinder for the initial 5/8" from its tip, then tapering outwardly into a cone-frustum for the next 1/4" to 5/16". The sleeve is fixed to the MP which is then dedicated to the specific receiver. So buy a "normal" spare MP.
