I think that there were around 400 performers at the Kennedy Center this evening.

Thanks for the link!

That venue isn’t the worst imaginable one, modestly said. The video obviously benefits from a pro level system. Stationary microphones and possibly stationary cameras with remote control as well. Also some experienced handling of the system.

Very, very little blatting, generally very together in rhythm (I only noted the National Emblem section being a-syncron). And I could hear inner voices. Not always as clear lines, but the chords weren’t mud only. This is very tough to achieve given the composition of the instruments and the short rehearsal time.

But I must say I years back enjoyed photos of a much smaller TC event in a small town resembling the setting of a western movie also. And I find it good that a place like Juneau - AK, which cannot benefit from participants easily motoring in from the neigbouring areas, still pulls an event. Great manifestation of our instruments.

Had roughly 260 players participate for 2010 Tuba Christmas, December 11th in Porland, Oregon.
This was the 20th anniversary for Porland; the event was held outside in Pioneer Square, known here as "Portland's living room". Even with the cold and rain there were several hundred enthusiastic fans attending...

TUBACHRISTMAS Bel Air, Maryland is not until Sunday, 12/19/2010. This is our 4th year, though, due to a huge snow storm last year, only our third actual performance. I will report on attendance on that Sunday evening.

In the past we have topped out at 28 players. So, if you are in the area, come out and join us to help make this the largest Merry TUBACHRISTMAS, Bel Air, Maryland on record.

Merry TUBACHRISTMAS to all and to all a good night.

At our new venue in Old Saybrook, the 2010 Connecticut TubaChristmas had approximately 75 players, ages 11 to 85. One non-musical highlight was Art Tovey catching a flung T-shirt in his Helicon bell!

Nope Klaus, but given the general dress of the ladies at the place we played, there was "alot of beef on the hoof".

In Porterdale, Georgia, yesterday, at their 2nd annual TubaChristmas, the official count reported was 41. The temperature was lower, maybe 28. It was cold, but that is normal.

And since no one has reported on Atlanta yet, Don Strand reported around 150 being registered. The weather was much better. Temp was in the upper 50s, I believe.

There has been posted on Youtube from it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRz_pOpKSPk" target="_blank

That is me in the funny hat with the left-handed baritone. Don't know how much anyone wants to know about it. It is a USA Line. Grand Rapids Band Instrument Co. (York) About 100 years old. Apparently was unsoldered and turned around some time in its life. I got it at a Goodwill store about 10 to 12 years ago, so I know nothing about its history. I am not left-handed, but it's fun to have something different. I do have a grand-daughter, 5 years old, who is left-handed. She may grow into it

While we don't do a TubaChristmas (c), TM, we do play a Tuba Carol Christmas in the Eugene/Springfield area using tunes arranged by David Grovsneor. We had 41 tuba/euphonium players and played in, what else, a downpour. We had about 200 people in the crowd, and they didn't have cover provided like we did. Oldest was 88, youngest was 13. Andy Schanz, Oregon Tuba Ensemble was the director.

I didn't hear an accurate head count but I would guess we had about 200 tubas and euphoniums at the Glendale (Los Angeles) Tuba Christmas yesterday evening. A new venue this year and very warm weather might have kept a few folks away. But the accoustics in the Glendale Civic Theater were MUCH MUCH better than past locations.

the sacremento ca one was a huge success. it was my first tuba christmas and it was just absolutely amazing. there were over 100 tubas and euphoniums. it was THE definition of insanity. learning 32 pieces in a half an hour, then a concert. all while not being able to see the conductor at ALL. sound was amazing though. i have never played with more than 2 other tubas so this was a great experience. im planning on attending the yuba city one this saturday also. :tuba:
I don't play the tuba.
I am a tuba player.
There's a difference.

Another bit of news from the Glendale (Los Angeles) Tuba Christmas... Jim Self announced that he and his collection of pro players have recorded many of the Christmas Carols arranged specifically for the pros to play at the LA Tuba Christmas over the years. He said they had recorded 3 more tunes that morning before the event. Hopefully there will be a CD released soon of Christmas Music performed by Jim and his friends. For this I can't hardly wait... these arrangements are GREAT! All written in 12 parts, 6 euphonium and 6 tuba.

At Columbus, NC about 75 or so. Held at the Polk County High School auditorium. Enthusiastic audiance & one of the very best TubaChristmas events around!
Greensboro, NC 130 players more or less. Four Seasons Mall. A real Blast. The younger crowd (players) are fun to watch and hear.
Washington DC 300. Great fun! In the Kennedy Center. Archived on their website. See my son the elf in closeups with his double bell!
EVERY low brass player should "do" at least one of these every year. Paying gigs last throughout the year......
