Just when you think there are no tuba players up north at all, comes a concert at South Portland High School. Tuba and euphonium players enthusiastically grabbed me after the concert, and even during intermission, wanting to talk tuba. I had folks come up to me and ask if I was related to Art Hovey… we’re not directly related, but there must be some connection with all these New Englanders. One of the gentlemen was certain he had played a concert with me 40 years ago, as he really thought I was Art’s son! Another had studied with Art, and was still a gung ho tuba player decades later.
Art, you’ve cast a long shadow and have a great many loyal fans!
Makes a guy proud to be a Hovey!

Karl,
I am really sorry that I was not able to get to the one concert you did in CT.
I hope we can finally meet some day. Do you ever make it to the Army Tuba Conference? Look me up if you do.
