Most anything with Stan Goetz. Not too many jazz soloist that probably never played a wrong note

Out of control! I thought the challenge here was to name just ONE. (I can see where this is going. We don't want Amazon to take over Tubenet.

Don't we all have a thousand or more "must plays", being lovers of music in general?

I recommend everything I have ever heard.

Russians

Ancient Echoes at first looks like one of those cheap marketing ploys we often see with its floating monk cover. However, the music contained inside is stunning.

The Chorovaya Akademia is an all-male Russian choir. The music recorded here is pure Russian romanticism. Everytime I listen to this CD I am blown away by the group's blend, timbre, phrasing and ability to achieve a whisper soft or powerful fortissimo that will rock your world! And lets not forget to mention the unforgettable basses! Oh man..its amazing!

Its a non-tuba disc, but in a lot of ways a great sound concept CD.

This is one that you will cherish, I'm sure!

Being in a Christmas Mood how about

Carols for A Merry Tuba Christmas

Particuarly the vocal solo of Harvey Phillips on "Santa Want's a Tuba for Christmas"

Having seen a PDQ Bach earlier I can't help but mention my favorate track from "The Wurst of PDQ Back". New Horizons in Music Appreciation, which does a "concert cast" with announcers during the 1st movement of Bethovens 5th.

This CD is fantastic. I'll second the recommendation.

Reiner Conducts Wagner (and Strauss)

Post by Tony Halloin »

One of my favorite all time recordings for music made with sheer passion is this RCA Victor release of Reiner Conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in works of Wagner and Strauss. The Wagner contains some of Meistersinger including Jacobs playing the famed excerpt, some Gotterdammerung where one feels the flames of Bud's trumpet, and a Don Juan played with an intensity practically unmatched.
Interpretation at its highest level!

I'll second that. For sheer musicality, you can't do much better than Jascha Heifetz. For my money, the Beethoven/Mendelssohn is one of the tops:
