I think he really should consider a Kanstul 33. They are the easiest blowing horns with a great sound. Maybe a bit pricey however.

Hi!Rick Denney wrote:If the bugle is not efficient, what do you do to make more sound?tubaforce wrote:Effeciency of the Bugle, and the back pressure are the issues we confuse with "air consumption", IMHO!
You use more air.
Point is: The King 2341 is a very efficient bugle.
Rick "thinking this is a semantic discussion" Denney
If you smack your mouthpeice (GENTLY, HOLDING IT WITH ONE HAND) while inserted into several different Tubas, you should be able to hear the differences in "effeciency". I find it easier to sustain a long pianissimo tone on my old 25-J than on any of my smaller Tubas, including a larger Bore Cernevey, and a tiny Besson 727. I use more air for Forte playing on any horn, because it takes more air to maintain the intensity and stength of my vibrating air stream. I hope to do some serious reading on the subject while I'm off work due to a broken foot...
Al, who agrees for the most part that this discussion is "semantic".
