It's also common (without the "th") in scholarly/academic historiographic research/writing, even in the US.

RIght... it was the Roman numerals plus "th" that I was talking about. One or the other certainly make sense, just not both. Anyway, I'll save this all for the grammer ( :) ) thread.

I don't know if this really fits what you are looking for, but last year the orchestra I play in did Holst: Second Symphonic Suite in F. Since this piece is also available for band, the director had some of the brass play from the band score. This made the piece fit #4 as I was pretty much doubling them through out the piece. I loved the little "tuba solo" at the end of the final movement.
I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it.

Okay, this one is a little less common but does have Tuba doubling timpani.
