Joe, that is totally amazing.

I saw the bell before you worked on it, and I am stunned!

This makes me think about going all out on the York body.

Another vote for Joe -The Almighty!

You mentioned another Eb helicon you sold to someone in Colorado. Might that be the one I sold to you several years back?

And, If I sent you my 1927 Conn Bb helicon, how long would it take to look like this one?

If you only had an iota of his personal integrity, the tuba community would be in for a whole new experience.

Whoops, had I known you didn't want anybody to say "WOW" I would have said something different. Like . . . um . . . "HOLY SMOKES, that is AMAZING."

Hmmmm.... do you know me? I sorta thought I was doing pretty good in the personal integrity department. What I need is Joe's experience, skill, and patience.

I'd like to see pic of the CC Helicon in the bell stand frame. It seems to me that if the bell length extends beyond a tangent with the main bugle, then it is gonna put a LOT of strain on the bell.....all of that beautiful plumbing "cantilevered" off in space probably has a pretty good righting-moment.

I'm trying to figger-out a reasonable stand for gigging a BBb helicon.....

I use a regular folding sousaphone stand.

So Joe, will you be playing this Sunday at Huey's ?
Or do I have to make another trip to see her?

I figure you'll be too busy Saturday :(
(I'm still working on the wife. Might be me and the boy instead)

' no Huey's jazz gigs until Sunday afternoon, April 17 at the Collierville Hueys...
Bad phraseing on my part. I ment "this horn" at Huey's the next time you play there, April 17, as mentioned in the "'tuck in Memphis?" thread.

Same with my mention of Saturday. Meaning April 16th for the IRIS concert.

Thanks for the pic's Joe. Looks pretty stable.

Tofu's got my next question already!

I may still go with the folding stand ......Jupiter and K&M both make 'em.

It is not a "sousaphone" - big, conical bass brass instrument wrapped in a circular shape designed to be worn on the shoulder with a detachable bell that faces forward
Hey, hopelessly pedantic defining of terms is my department, fella.

A sousaphone is a helicon with a bell that bends to point straight up, instead of off the the player's left. That was the innovation sought by Sousa.

Sousaphones with bells that then pointed forward came along with tubas with bells that pointed forward. The latter is a recording tuba, and the former should be a recording sousaphone.

Thus, a sousaphone is a helicon with a bell pointed to straight up, that in later years was provided with a bell that pointed forward like a recording tuba.
