Sousaphone Risks?

Because my section leader is probably about 5"9 and when he fell with his sousaphone he could not march for over a week and a half. I, on the other hand, am 6"4 and much heavier than him, so if I fall I can only assume it would be worse.

You're big and the Sousa will be easier for you to handle than your section leader. Don't sweat it and have fun.

Both Sousa players ended up with broken bones.. one jaw, one something else... I can't remember, but if you get to play on a field where parachutes are falling, make sure to post a forward observer so you can get a warning when one blows off course.. in to the low brass section...

Also, having a team of medics on hand would be a great idea...

So, after all of the replies that I got more than half of you have explained that being the size that I am will make it easier for me to remain balanced and not fall due to the wind or something like that. Thanks to this post I'm not nearly as worried about falling over and dying XD. Also, I have to agree with whoever told me to fall on the little people so thanks to all of you for helping me out with this small issue that I blew way out of proportion.

watch out for strong wind (it makes a great sail) and lightning (if it's metal)

Any material sticking up can attract lightning just the same. Fiberglass can be splintered apart like a tree, sending shards in all directions. But a fiberglass sousaphone with a lightning rod attachment leading to the ground, now there's an idea.
