I'm not sure if it is just my computer but in each of your posts there is just a thin, black rectangle where it seems like you wanted a recording or maybe a youtube video to appear.

The version of Flash I have fell out of favor with the web browser I use, so (I surmise) Tubenet's embedded video feature doesn't work because it requires Flash. To see the video is a rather manual exercise - reply with quote, then copy and paste the URL into the browser. From there I was about to post a reply to relieve anyone else of this nuisance who might be in our situation, by revealing that "this march" is "Purple Carnival", but didn't really know that I wasn't the only one - maybe next time I will! The other mystery video is a Dukes of Dixieland performance of "The Billboard March", really pretty good - I'm thinking maybe I like this better than I usually like their stuff because while equally well done, it's relative to the usual brass band version, rather than standing next to Sidney Bechet or someone like that.

Wilhelm Zehle: Wellington March

Won 4 march composition contests arranged by Hawkes & Co.

Wellington is very well written and is considered quite difficult. Odd that a composer with these skills had such small production.

I'm a fan of Kenneth Alford. Last night I played Army of the Nile in concert, a march I did not previously know. (it has a tricky part for bass). It is one of a number of very fine marches by Alford. A terrific march composer with a signature style.

There is a group of about ten community band members who get together at my house on Thursdays at 11am to play circus music. Today we played two Duble marches... "Galop Zip Boom" and "Wizard of the West". We don't have them quite up to 'circus tempo' yet but will work on it over the next few weeks. These tunes represent an art form that is dying. High school kids need to at be exposed to gallops, rags, and two-steps at least enough to be able to play the rhythms.

I learned two weeks ago that the library of Charles 'Chuck' Schlarbaum, one of the last circus band directors, was donated to 'Windjammers'. The library consisted of 34 file cabinets and 250 boxes of music that's been moved to a storage facility in Sarasota awaiting transfer to Barnhouse Publishing where it will be sorted and cataloged. I think there will be a lot of duplication of known works but there are certain to be some 'rare gems', too.

I play in a city band that plays a concert every Thursday night during the summer. We play a lot of marches. At least three a concert. Some not yet mentioned are Our Director, Billboard, Valderes, March of the Women Marines, Thunder and Blazes and thunder. We play a lot of Sousa, King, and Filmore marches. Them Bases is played at least once a summer. We also play a lot of little known marches from the very early 1900's that are mostly really weard. I guess that is why they are little known. A couple of other popular marches are Iowa Band Law March and Rough Rider March.

Karl King wrote some great, fun marches. Mr. King played euphonium and wrote lots of great euph parts. Aa a euphist my favorite is The Melody Shop.

I Like all the British marches we play in brass band. My favorite is Knight Templar by George Allen.

Embarassing, but I can’t find any Cory Band reference on the YouTube page coming up by following the The Waltonians- link up this page. If there is one please tell me where on the page to look for it. Searching text, that I cannot magnify, isn’t a strong side of mine.

The reference was in a place, where I hadn’t imagined to look. I read TN on my iPadPro, the large one, which is not a bragging tool, but a reading tool, because I can enlarge text within Safari by a simple finger gesture. Videos, however, are opened in the YT app that has a fixed text size, which is hard to read. But that is where I have my many play-lists.

Apparently the channel reference has been moved during an upgrade of the app, because I, in vain, looked for it in another context earlier today. Just found out it is in the top right corner above the column of videos suggested in the context of the one currently viewed.

Sorry to derail the thread, but I was in trouble handling one of its offsprings, the video presentation of a relevant march.

About The Waltonians I would say that it is not bad, but to me there is too much show-off. Knight Templar, that Andy mentioned, also is difficult, but it has much more depth to it.
