Phone mikes sometimes don't have much low range response, whereas some tuner mikes are made with wide response in mind. Not all tuners will pick up those low notes either, and some phones and software packages do just fine.

Recently spotted entering his recording studio to tape another fabulous TubeNet sound bite.

Not sure if for once he will be using the Sousaphone too for the performance.

As the IT guys say: crap in / crap out

Rumor has it that he's calling it Taking Care of Business!

BTO is rolling over.

Um... Not sure what to feel or how to feel about that. Nice looking Sousa there, though.

I'm going to the local German Club tonight. I'll try to get some 'edgy-ness' practice in there!

I took a King 2341 (BBb) bell-front tonight. Mostly Bavarian/Austrian marches, waltzes, and polkas. Maybe a little of an edge to compete with three clarinets! Not much edge, though. It's really not my style. Even with polka music... you need to blend.

That sounds fun tubatinker. Clarinets love that edginess anyways. But as you said...you say it's not really your style. So this edgy sound thing is a perferance in that case.

Trivia question:

Did Herbert Wekselblatt ever employ bloke's nemesis, the cimbasso, during his time with a certain orchestra?
(Disclaimer: this is second hand information that I have heard over the years, paraphased as best as I can remember it. I have no personal knowledge of these events and hope that someone who does know firsthand will chime in if I've gotten anything wrong)

Only once. The story I have heard is that he hated the cimbasso. Apparently, one production during his tenure came along and it was insisted that he use a cimbasso. The story goes that he found the most god awful cimbasso he could find and brought that. This horn sounded bad, played worse, had horrible intonation, and was a general disaster. The intention was to make it unlikely anyone would ever request a cimbasso there again. Those relating the story to me speculated that this incident was why the cimbasso took so long to find use at the Met, or even in NYC.
My opinion for what it's worth...

If you're going to lurk - you gotta be edgy and pay close attention - Beer Babes happened all the way back on page 11!
