I see a ton of Youtube clips for the Tappen Zee Bridgemen, but no website. Is there such a thing?

Interesting arrangements!

Me with the Transcendental Brass Band at the 2009 Oregon Brewer's Festival at Portland's Waterfront Park.
We are a 8-piece second line band based in Portland, Oregon, and play just about everything you can imagine from trad jazz, cool jazz, funk, soul, blues, rock in addition to our second line offerings. The weather was hot, the beer was cold, the crowd was appreciative and the tips flowed as generously as the beer.
The four pictured here pictured are (guest artist) Carl, me (Jay), Jeff and Ben.

Wow, Russ. That's a great-looking horn. Is that your main horn in the Reno Philharmonic?

That's the best looking horn on the thread so far, Russ. How much do RM 4345s cost new?

Muchachos Drum & Bugle Corps, indeed from Manchester.
HA! So the Muchachos have gotten new uniforms in the past 6 years or so. I went to Central HS and played very briefly with the Muchachos in 2002 (My Freshman year of HS) before joining the Spartans down in Nashua. If that's a 2 valve dynasty G that belongs to the corps, it's very possible I played that horn some years ago! 8)

Thanks, it really is a beauty! I really don't know the current new price of this model but I would imagine it is in the over 10k range.

Well the corps got the new threads for this year, since it's their fiftieth anniversary. And the dynasty bugles have been given a third valve, which is pretty great. Was the one you played the one that had the crinkled bell from shipping that had to be fixed? That's the one I'm playing.

2 pics, #1 is Me and my fellow freshman undergrad tuba player here at ISU with our Meinl Weston 45S twins, mine is #118 and his is #110. #2 is me soldering on the #1 slide loop onto my converted Conn 20J (it's on a leadpipe away from playing again).

Good Morning Elephant, I notice in a lot of pictures of you players.. you all seem to have your left hand on a tuning slide!..Why isn't your horn tuned up before you play and during your practice??I have never played tuba with anyone but my self.. and I never had to move my slides on my 3J.. once my teacher had tuned it 21 years ago... I marked where my slides were and when I pulled them out to clean I knew how to put them in the right place... I'm not tring to be a smart azzz ... when you don't play with anyone and play the same music that you played 21 years ago.. advanced E-Tudes you don't learn much! about weather your in tune except the way you played it for all that time..Hell up untill the DC conference I pronounced E-Tude just the way is looks EEEEEE Tudes not Atudes,, It took a guy working for David Federly to correct me on the pronunciation!! a little embarrassing after playing so long.. It was nice of the people at lee's place not to correct me and let me play that wonderful horn the holton 345 anyway Elephant I'm just curious Thanks to anyone who replys BB

If you are playing a long note with a combination of valves (and don't have a compensating horn) it is sometimes necessary to fine tune the horn - sometimes the main tuning slide is easiest, other times a particular valve slide is tweaked. This doesn't often happen in marching bands or jazz bands ;-) This is also one reason why "fancy" orchestral tubas have more than 3 (or 4) valves - to eliminate the need for some combinations.

Intonation is something that you most always be aware of. Just because your open C is in tune does NOT mean that every single pitch is in tune. Likely you will have to adjust something for every single pitch, usually it will be your embouchure, but on occasion I slide my be pulled. I don't know very many serious players (either students or professionals) that don't move a slide in some way as they play. It is foolish not to adjust out of tune notes.
