Didn't know Yamaha used lead-free solder. I'd think that would be better (stronger and non-toxic)TheGoyWonder wrote:Crappy lead-free solder is Yamaha's big weakness

They were really helpful. Rob, the owner and a Tuba player himself let me try out a handful of their tubas and a different mouthpiece as well to see, if I counted correctly they had about 8 - 9 BMB tubas out on display and about 6 or so used tubas like King, Jupiter and Meihl (well.. they had a MeihlHeavy_Metal wrote:ntruhan, what was your experience with Buckeye Brass? I did mention I heard his name from a member on TubeNet and he was aware of TubeNet, but I never took it any further then that.

Not sure about the rest of the joints, but the solder I used on the spit valve was lead-free.toobagrowl wrote:Didn't know Yamaha used lead-free solder. I'd think that would be better (stronger and non-toxic)TheGoyWonder wrote:Crappy lead-free solder is Yamaha's big weakness

Nope, honestly, it was $3 grand, which is why it was really hard to pass up. I went over budget, but didn't get in TOO much trouble.GregTuba79 wrote:I just looked that horn up...Nathan you really spent $8 grand-ish on a horn for small quintet work?? You came out FAR better than a generic Chinese horn with not much more $$$. Wish I'd known it was there.

Just an FYI... I have put the old Yamaha up on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171945631605?ss ... 1555.l2649
Asking $400. While everyone here knows the issues I have had with it, it does play still and could be re-built by someone who knows what they are doing or for a student who just needs something to play with.
