I remember when Army berets were distinctive, being Special Forces only...

Oh well, guess some things just have to change...

Not always for the better though..

For marching, I'd rather wear this any day.


Black goes well with most uniforms, and when properly blocked it's better tahn any ball-cap or beret

Heh... yeah, that'd be cool, but it doesn't quite look right on any other uniform; it even looks weird when I see cops with black caps of the same cut.

There were pictures posted online a couple years ago previewing the proposed new Air Force camouflage uniform, and it included the same eight-sided construction for the cover. Among the comments posted, nobody liked it, not because they thought it was ugly -- but because they felt that it just copied a design that is so distinctively used by another branch.

It could be done right. Or perhaps follow a similar concept, not the octagon, but something distinctive. Still looks better that the round ones the Army has, or a ball cap. And just a bout anything beats a beret.

The Navy units that don't wear dungarees use it too, like the CBs or SPs, without the EGA.
I think the SEALs use it too. So it not a particulary Marine Corps item.
