5th valve in tuning slide

I seem to remember reading here of a Yamaha F (?) that had an optional 5th valve which replaced the tuning slide. Am I dreaming? 
My question is: if that is feasible, could one add a 4th valve in a tuning slide on a 3 valve upright, like a Conn 10J? Am I crazy?
