Wessex 5/4 CC TUBAS

Post by TubaofGilman »

Writing to see if anyone has done a review of Wessex 5/4 Tubas.
Would like to see a reply from anyone who has played the Wessex Anton and the Wyvern.

I used to own a Wyvern. It was incredibly easy to play and it’s intonation was really good. Mechanically I had no issues. Ultimately I wanted a bigger sound.

Still holding out hope that Wessex will bring a larger rotary CC tuba to the market similarly sized to the MW Tuono or the B&S 3098 8) :tuba:

I owned both horns, in fact I own an Anton right now, both solid tubas, I recommend the Anton if you are in a budget and want something that has weight in the sound. If you have the money I recommend the Wyvern it is a better horn ergonomically speaking, and it has easier tuning tendecies.

Thank you very much. Can you give some of your pros and cons of the Anton?
I am playing a Mack Brass CC 410 now. Looking for a tuba that has more broader sound.
My daughter has a Wessex BBb Luzern it has a great sound . I’m hoping the Anton has a similar sound.

For me the only issue I have with the Anton is the 4th line F# which is a little flat compared to other horns I owned, but I can lip it up or use a 2-4 combination, also the tuba is a bit heavy (that is pretty much the only I don't like about it). Good things, it has a big, focused and pretty dark sound, definitely great for larger ensembles, maybe not so great for brass quintet, but you can make it work, it is definitely going to give you that broader sound you want compared to the Mack brass. High register is good and in tune, same with low, and medium.
