MACK 621 CC in quintet/small orchestra?

Post by eupho »

Does anyone have video to share of their MackBrass 621 CC(16 inch bell) in quintet, small orchestra or small band? I have seen the YouTube videos but like to see/hear one in an ensemble. Shopping. Thanks

I brought it to my community band one time, and felt slightly underpowered behind the mouthpiece, but the director and people around the section all thought it sounded good. It is certainly easy to play in tune and hold in one’s lap, which I like, but I don’t think I’d play it in a group of 30 or more players if I had other options.

Great horn, however, for what it is. Perfect for brass quintet or anything mic’d-up.

This is a copy of the Yamaha YCB-621, no? I know you can find videos of those being played online. You'll mostly see quintet or smaller.

I agree with Dylan. "Perfect for brass quintet or anything mic'd-up."

On the Yammy, look for Bob Stewart playing jazz or Jay Rosen playing in Anthony Braxton's larger ensemble (12 or so players) or Charles Daellenbach playing with the Canadian Brass. You probably won't find much in the way of orchestra playing, though.

Not quite the same, but I used a Yamaha 821 F (basically a 621 with a 16.5” bell) on all these tracks: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLA ... _r8PAstkpo
