Hello everyone I have a quick question about the miraphone 184 tubas. ok so heres my question, what exactly is the desigh theory of this model? Is it supposed to be like an f tuba for those who don't play f tuba? Designed for smaller student players or just as a small quintet type horn, or mabye a contrabass designed for solo work? what are these horns best suited for anyways? thanks zach

Focused, compact sound, and, as bloke puts it, capable of "blistering the paint off the ceiling" if pushed. But why push? (well, I used it for an outdoor concert last weekend just for that "pop", but that's another... ) A big horn will support an orchestra, the 184 is a great horn for a chamber ensemble. I have a CC, which I love, and if I wanted the sound of an F, I would use one of my Fs or Ebs!

I have found mine gets a solid contrabass sound, while having the cut-through capability of the narrow-bellstack Mfones. I'd like, however, to get a larger CC (188) because I'd rather have something I don't have to push as hard, to get the same amount of sound out of. For me, that appears to be a larger tuba. Interesting, huh? And my quintet just asked me to start using the F because they like the blend better; the 184 is too "contra-bassy" for them.

And maybe I'm misguided, too.
