Thanks for posting. This reminds me when my son's Asperger's autism kicked in during late elementary school. He had just started school band when the hypersensitivity to sound became unbearable about half-way through the semester and he had to go on an IEP. I worked with the band director to bring his music home and rehearse with him. I wrote tuba parts to go with his cornet parts so he could learn the fundamentals of how to play in ensemble. Then instead of a school concert we invited both sides of the family over and we tape recorded a "concert" for the family. I sent the tape in for the teacher to review, and she passed him. Of course, and unfortunately, he was unable to continue second semester in band. But it was fun to be able to help him directly with his horn playing.
