Hello All,

I’ve been thinking about going digital for sheet music for brass choir and community band.
Any suggestions on who has the best display for indoor and outdoor events?

I like using my iPad with the app forScore. combined with a Bluetooth pedal page turner, its very effective for combatting quick page turns and windy conditions.

The downside: if playing in direct sunlight, the iPad will shut itself down to prevent damage. Can't forget to charge it either.

I know a couple people who use an iPad and Forscore software and do well.

I went Chromebook and Mobilesheets software instead, because it was much cheaper to get a 3:2 display. Either software works well.

I didn't want to spend a lot not knowing how much longer I'll be playing a heavy awkward instrument, at my age and with some joint issues. In hindsight though I think i would have been happier with the iPad. I've had some trouble getting used to the Chromebook operating system and its habit of doing things i didn't want or expect. The iPad i was issued at work (I just retired, so gave it back) was rock solid but expensive. I need the 12.9 size for my vision. If you can get by with the 11 inch they are reasonably priced.

I have all my practice material on the Chromebook and am starting to get some of my group repertoire too. Scanning is easy with an iPhone, save to google drive, the software can import from google drive directly. One problem with the iPad, you can't add storage beyond what you buy it with; Chromebooks and other tablets have microSD card slots.

I got a secondhand iPad Pro 1st generation for the 12.9” screen; you don’t need much processing power just to read music, and scanned sheet music requires very little storage space. I don’t use a dedicated score app, the free Adobe reader and scanner works fine plus Adobe offers free cloud storage. I got a Bluetooth page turner but haven’t needed it due to the big iPad’s ability to display two pages at once plus the fact that tuba music has plenty of rests.

iPad 12.9”, forScore app, Bluetooth page turner. You won’t regret it
