I just recently purchased an Eastman 832 from Matt Walters at Dillon Music and am extremely glad I did. The horn easily lives up to the hype and Matt did a super job getting it ready and shipping it to NC. It felt like Christmas in January when I unboxed it!

The 832 does have the York sound (or at least what I think the Yorks sound like). The sound is full, somewhat broad but not does, not cover the the ensemble like a fog and easily projects over our 90 piece band. It does not have the same back pressure that my MW has, this coupled with the fact that the bell is closer to my left ear and that I have a tendency to "play down" on the notes has caused to to adjust my embouchure and listening somewhat. This took about 2 weeks of playing before I felt comfortable with picking up the horn and playing without having to concentrate on my embouchure.
The higher register is solid and secure (any issues are there are obviously mine and not the horn!) and in tune. The low register is open and easy blowing all the way down to the fundamental and a few notes farther on a good day. The overall sound is great and the other players in my section love the sound. Surprisingly, even the euphonium players like the difference in sound! (Now, if only NC would stop making us play while wearing masks!)

The ergonomics are very good and the 832 is about a pound lighter than my MW 30. The case is well build, heavy and the wheels really help out.

Eastman has a hit on their hands with the 832 and a big thank you to Chris Olka for his input and taking the time to answer my questions!

Jim

That’s because it’s really good. I was blown away by the one at TMEA.

I’m really liking the one I have! There’s a lot repertoire that this horn is PERFECT for in the orchestra and chamber music.
