Alteration to Mahler 5 part

I last performed Mahler's 5th in 2003, playing the part that Torchinsky used in his Vol. 11 study of the Mahler Symphonies. I'm sure that this version of the part was used for many years. I will soon be performing this again, and the part I received is a new version, published by C.F. Peters in 2002. Curiously, I noticed in the Scherzo, at the fifth bar of rehearsal 21, that this new version is missing two ascending chromatic runs of eighth notes that are in the older version of the part. The first run is there, at bar 3, but the second two are now rests, now played only by the bassoons. I wonder why? Did someone discover that Mahler had not intended the tuba to play these? Or was it a publisher's decision? Odd, and a little disappointing.
