Hi Tubenet,
I’m going to be interviewing for band director jobs at the end of this year. Even though I’ll be a band director I want to continue to keep playing as much as possible. What are some avenues I could pursue on the side? How realistic is it to sub for orchestras as a band director, if I could pass the audition of course. Is my main option community bands or starting up/joining a brass quintet? What outlet have you found that has kept your playing up?
Thanks!

Re: Questions for Band Directors out there who still play
I live in southwest Missouri. Several band directors in the regional schools play in the regional university sponsored community band to keep up with their playing. No audition, show up, register, and play. Because it is community oriented, no tuition due to the university.
