I've been doing some research about Martin Mammoth tubas, particularly the recording bell versions. I've seen them with both top action piston valves and front action valves.

My question is were these made interchangeably, or did they start with say the top action, then moved to the front action?

I'd appreciate anyone here who could provide some more expertise than me.
