What makes one tuba louder than the other? Bore size? Bell size? Bottom bow? Top bow?

Air, air, air. How much air can you put through the horn in a controlled manner and get the most efficient performance of the embouchure without losing tone quality?

...the buzzer-thingy in front of the mouthpiece.

Not to be snide, but buying a bigger (i.e. 6/4) tuba seldom means it's going to be "louder". In fact, without proper projection lots of players wind up finding their sound getting lost inside some giant cavern. On the flip side, I find it easier to play soft on my CC(s) than on my F(s).
