Lohengrin Act 3 Prelude Recordings with "Complete" Upper Line?

Post by The Brute Squad »

Good morning TubeNet.

Does anyone know of any recordings of the Lohengrin Act 3 Prelude where the tuba plays the full line the first time (up to the high G)? In my scouring of the internet, the only times I've found the tuba playing the whole thing were playing the Stokowski arrangement (which is down the octave).

There's been plenty of discussion here on whether or not to do it, and Wes Jacobs suggests it in The One Hundred, so I know it's done sometimes. Just odd that I can't seem to find any recordings.

I play it that way. I have actually never heard it played any other way. I have never heard it performed live as the part is written.

That doesn't really help when looking for recordings, though, and the opposite seems to be true there (including live versions on YouTube).

Thankfully, some PM'd me with a couple where they play the whole thing.

Just to be clear: I have never heard this played as written in RECORDED form, either. Please post links to performances of this where the tuba player executes the part as in the Kalmus edition. Thanks!
