Gig bag for Martin tuba

Post by Hank74 »

Does anyone have a suggestion of a gig bag for my Martin Mammoth recording bell BBb tuba? Would a large Altieri bag do the trick? Thanks in advance.

I have a Martin Mammoth (1958 USN specially ordered) w/ 4 top action valves and a fixed upright bell in a large Altieri bag. I can take a picture for you with the drawstring loose and looking down into the bag. Maybe that will help you decide.

Yes, that would be helpful. Thank you. How tall is your Altieri bag?

I'd recommend Messina Covers. They make a pattern specifically to fit a mammoth:

"Some men are macho men. Others are Martin men"

It's that word "handcraft"...

Yeah, I think the recording bell model would fit, but the top of the bell would stick out the top of my alteri bag (which is plenty big for the body. It’s big enough to have some extra room around the body. I’d think a two piece bag from Messina would be the way to go.
