"Old" Cerveny or Hirsbrunner 3 valves compensated ?

Post by EmiliDaimblanc »

Hello everyone,

I'm about to purchase my first tuba. I'm a trumpet player for a long time and a little bit euphonium.

I have two opportunities :
-An "old" Amati type Cerveny/Josef Lidl 681 (as the annonce says), the inscription on the tuba is just : Amati kraslice. The seller is a workshop who as done a full restoration of the instrument (no major repair) and the tuba is in excellent shape.
-The second opportunity is an Hirsbrunner 3 valves compensated rotors in excellent shape too and the seller is also a workshop.

The two horns are for the same reasonable price and I can only try the Hirsbrunner the next week, the Amati is sent from too far.

My goal is to play in community bands and some New Orleans bands.

As a new tuba player, I can't decide which one could suit me the best.

What information could you give me about this two horns that could help me to decide ? Both are great horns but are they any differences about their colourness/sound caracteristics ?

Thanks,

Emilien
