A real fun duet

Post by Tubaman485 »

With Octubafest just a month away I was wondering if anyone knew of a real fun poky tuba duet. Our studio is gonna invite local high school kids so I need somethin kind of flashy but not too difficult to pull off. And most importantly it must be funny, I wanna make people laugh at the two of us goofing around. I want this to be a good recruiting tool for our university. Any Ideas? Thanks

Many years ago I made a little fun duet over the German drinking song "Im tiefen Keller" for my section mate Ove and myself.

Ove played 2nd on his B&S 5RV F-tuba and I played first on my Conn 26K 3P Eb sousaphone. The second part has a 2 octave range: Ab-ab. The first part has a 3+1/2 range from BBb to eb'.

The graphic edition never was intended for publishing, but urged by a couple of my young Norwegian tuba friends I have made the 3-verses & 2-pages playing score available, for free of course, here:

The text is German/Danish only, and despite a few clashes of graphical elements it is fully readable.

The 2nd part is demanding more musicality than technique, as it takes some understanding of the harmonic functions, which are not always the usual tuba roots.

I also have made a more "official" trio version of the same tune to be found here:

Try "Dutch Suite" by PDQ Bach. It's decent music and pretty humorous writing. You can ham it up yourself with some creative acting/stage mannerisms.
