Favorite Examples of Funk/Jazz/Bllues tuba?

Post by MKTuba »

Title says it. Reply with your favorite pieces of funk, jazz, or blues tuba music! Standalone pieces, whole albums, or even just notable players are all welcome.

I love Let There Be Funk by D Edward Davis. I played it at a recital a year or so ago, and want to put it on an album someday.

Tough to do much better than Howard Johnson playing with Taj Mahal.

Lots of great and funky tuba going on in banda music, too. Here is Jesse “El Chikilin” Tucker with Los Hermanos Carrillo.

Check out Bob Stewart and William Roper. Also check out Jay Rosen's playing with Anthony Braxton.
