Stetson seems to be between tuba teachers and has been for some time (and it is really expensive to go there). If you're serious about doing tuba and want to stay in FL, go see Jay Hunsberger at USF. He's a really great musician and teacher as well (and person!). You won't go wrong with him or the faculty there in general. If you want his info send me a PM or email. You should go get a lesson regardless. Good luck!

The best thing for you to do is go check out these schools yourself and get a lesson with the teacher you will be studying with if you go there. You will figure you what is best for you and go from there. Every school has it's ups and downs. At USF we had a couple transfers and grad. students from Stetson in the tuba/euph studio. For the most part they were/are very solid players. It is about what you make of it and how much you practice! It's your job to figure out which enviornment will suit you best (big college/small, etc.).

there is now a tuba instructor at stetson, Tom Waid formerly of the Pershings Own army band, i looked into Florida State, and was even offered a good scholarship from Mr. Ebbers, but i didnt enjoy my stay there. As for USF, Mr. Hunsberger is amazing, but i was not a big fan of the gigantic campus, which is why i chose not to go there. also, if you havenot heard stetson band, then you are missing out. they compete with all the FSU's in the country, and are highly regarded as one of the top music colleges in the country. so i believe that it is going to be my choice, but if anyone knows of some really good graduate colleges, then let me know. thanks
