Amateur looking for a new Bflat tuba

Post by jakewillis »

I currently play in community band on my Wessex Prague which is a Piggy clone.

I am looking for a four-valve piston horn. Not too big.

4/4 or 5/4.

My school (I assist with the local HS) has a nice King 2431 which I like. I need to fill a room and play big enough for my community band. I’m the only Tubist.

Is there a stencil horn which is a copy or plays similarly? Something like 90 percent of the king? I am looking for a used King, but as the owner of a couple of Wessex Tuba products, I’m pleased with their instruments and don’t mind buying new from Wessex or Mack or Schiller etc.

Eastman makes a copy of the King 2341 BBb.

Eastman EBB534

VMI/B&S 3301 also known as the B&S pt2p

A good used condition VMI/B&S 3301 BBb (3302 has 5 valves). If you play with a correct embouchure then can easily play loud. Can definitely support your community band.

Or IF you don't mind a new one B&S still lists and offers that model in their catalog. Their website doesn't list all of the available products.

Here is a used B&S 3301 (pt2p) from Baltimore Brass

A used Kanstul 33s (front action) or 33t (top action)

Used Holton TU331

Although I am sure a Jupiter JTU1110 Tuba (JB-582 in the past), could work too.

Here is a link to Baltimore Brass BBb tuba page. The old style taller King will work too. But they also have a used modern King 2341 too listed. The old Conn CNN4VBBB is another candidate too.

Thank you! My college horn was a Pt3. I miss it but not playing in CC. These are great options. Thank you

I've got a 3302. Fantasic horn if you can find one. It's heavy but worth it!

I have a friend who at 85 can no longer physically handle his King 2341. He lives in Bowing Green, Ohio and might be interested in selling the horn. The horn needs a good cleaning but is in otherwise very good condition. Let me know if you would like me to contact him to ascertain his interest.
