I’m trying to track down a Mirafone 188 I bought new in 1985 from Mirafone when they were in SoCal (hence the spelling with an “f”). I sold it to Ken Sturgeon in the early 90s, and he sold it on consignment at Dillon Music about 20 years ago.
Particulars:
— Yellow brass with nickel-silver tuning slides.
— 5th valve tuning slide kicker.
— 1st valve tuning slide double-action spring tuner.
— 5th valve mechanism connecting rod had been replaced with a solid rod.
— Serial number might be something like 130XX, but my memory’s a little fuzzy on that.
— Slight crease marks in the bell lacquer from a repair.
Sound familiar to anyone?
Thanx…
…Dave

That was a GREAT 188. I hope you find it and that they will sell it to you!

Indeed it was, amigo! I have access to a loaner that's even better, and hope to have that soon. After 30+ years off the horn, I'm getting back on it again. If I can keep it up with the loaner, I'll think about adding some ponies to my stable. Played two MRP CCs in San Antonio a couple years ago and really dug them. I know you're digging yours. Might need one of those at some point!

Did you buy it from Dillon Music on consignment, by any chance? This is the only pic I have handy of it. Can you confirm the serial number?Stephen Shoop wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 7:35 pm I might very well be the current owner of your 188.
