I have been asked to sell 2 sousaphones owned by a band I play with.They are no longer needed and are taking up valuable storage space right now. Neither horn has been played in many years. What I would like to learn from this board is a little something about the instruments before I try to describe them to potential buyers. This will make my listing a little clearer regarding what is being sold.

Sousaphone #1: A large instrument, probably a BBb ( horn is unable to be played due to lack of neck and bits). 26" bell;6 1/2" throat at bell; Bell is marked: "Made by Frank Holton and Co., Elkhorn, Wis.", serial # 93581; silver finish, but very tarnished.According to my reading of a caliper, the inner tubing diameter exiting the tuning slide is .82147

Sousaphone #2: A smallish (Eb?) horn, marked "Concertone" on bell; no serial # visible, only the numbers 22, 23, 24 on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd valve casing, and the number 510 on the inner bell ring.The bell is 23 5/8th" diameter, the bell throat is 6", and the diameter of the inner tuning slide (exiting) seems to be .61780. I have never heard of a Concertone, but I am sure someone recognizes it as a stencil made by some company.

Any information on either horn--age, maker of the smaller one, desireability of either, etc. would be much appreciated. I like to know as much as possible before I list something for sale so I can fairly price it and intelligently answer all questions. Thank you all in advance!

I have been told so far that this instrument was made in 1927 and that it is either a: Revelation, a Collegiate, a 300, or a 311. My question is: how do you tell the difference between models?

BB300 is a current model, and white fiberglass
BB311 is a current model, brass, and has a .687" bore and a 26" bell
BB311S is a current model, silver, and has a .687" bore and a 26" bell

In my experience, either Revelation or Collegiate models were identified as such on the bell. Revelations were their top line horns. I have 1909 and a 1925 Revelation Trombones, but I don't know when they started with the Collegiate model. That was, obviously, a student line.
