I'm in search for a 4/4 BBb tuba (rotor valve).
Where I live there is very few tubas to test.
I have tested an Alexander 164(or 163 not sure (no marking (1st tubing was 22.5 mm))) from 1960-1970, and it sounded very nice. How is a new Alexander?

I have also tested a Cerveny 686 from 1990-2000, was easy to play, but less dark sound than the Alexander.

I also thinking of Miaphone (1)86, but never tested or heared any.

Any thoughts or recomendations on 4/4 BBb rotary tubas?

I played a MW20 for many years with great appreciation for the horn. I have read it is preferred over the newer and current Meinl Weston 25.
Cerveny varies by year or by horn, but there are some very good examples out there. Certainly play test.
The Miraphone 186 and 187 models are said to be very predictable and capable. Some variation over the years, but less than Cerveny.

I see your signature indicates a 497 Hagen. Are you downsizing, finding a practice horn, or something else? In many cases, the 497 seems like a great option.

I'm downsizing. Coming from Euphonium, I found the Hagen to big for me (right now). Also the band I play in have 20 people, so no big band, so no need for a big tuba.
My thinking is that some years with a 4/4 to learn better how to play tuba, and then back to the Hagen.
